Interesting, although it sounds like a world which is quite difficult to imagine due to its emptiness - a very lonely place. I like the poetic writing.
Reminded me a little of Westeros from Games of Thrones too, with the seasons sometimes lasting for an age and threatening all life until a moment of renewal.

I love 'Kent ducked behind the Doritos.' and 'the multicolored sugar aisle'. The gentle humour helps lighten the otherwise very real and frightening situation, making it feel a little more like watching a scene from a film.

Excellent - the last line is perfectly jarring and abrupt after the sensuous, evocative lines that come before. You write this sort of thing so well, with great metaphors for love and desire.
