Ruby sat out on the porch listening to the rain beat down on the roof above. The sky was a mass of dark grey clouds which appeared so close to the ground it seemed as if the world was enclosed in a great dome.

Perched a little way back from the steps she extended her legs out in front so that her toes caught drips from the roof above. She watched them land and then find their way down her foot and on to the wooden floor.

A loud rumble of thunder made Ruby jump and quickly draw back her feet, a second later a brilliant fork of lighting split the sky illuminating the clouds and the earth below them in pure white light. Ruby loved the rain but the lightning frightened her. She decided it was time to retreat inside.

I only had 15 minutes for bursting today - including time to check my spelling and grammar - so it's very short. I enjoyed it all the same.
