Father Stilicho was a cruel man. He told me that God lived in the sun and could be seen at noon through a telescope.

I searched every day for a month and then my right eyeball suddenly fizzled to a crisp during mass.

Stilicho noticed and singled me out. When he saw the crater in the front of my head he doubled up with laughter before rising suddenly to slash his rosary across my face.

He shrieked, "HeHeHeHe! You moron! Of course God doesn't live in the sun. Don’t you know how hot it is? Nor how far away?"

I felt piping hot tears scalding my face. Christ these tears were hot. My soft cheeks were really taking a battering from these hot tears.

I try to stay cheerful. After all, in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!

But I’d rather have the second eye.

Very dark and cruel - but with a twist of humour. I'd like to think Father Stilicho will get his comeuppance at some point!
