"Don't Hec" shouted Janet.

In her head she could see the scene as if she was floating above herself and Hector. The two of them stood only a few yards apart. Hec, as she'd called him since they where children, teetered on the edge of the cliff buffeted by the wind so brutally that Janet feared any moment he might be swept of his feet and down on to the rocks below.

“I have to, it's what I was...” Hec started to shout back, but it was futile, Janet couldn't hear him over the wind which blew hard passed them both and out over the ocean.

As she watched Hec mouth the words to her, a single thought entered Janet's head, and though it terrified her something inside subdued her fear. Crouching low she tensed then exploded into a sprint. A second later she was level with Hec, then beyond him and leaping from the cliff's edge. She laughed as she dived towards the glistening wet rocks below. Behind her she could hear Hec screaming.

She smiled. Only metres from the rocks Janet extended her arms out wide.
