He looked over at me, and I felt the heat of his gaze on my skin.

For a moment, I was sure the world had stopped spinning.

And then, it was over. A simple flash. Like lightening in the sky.

I was shocked by his show of affection. Although I can't say that the warmth of his skin wasn't nice.

He held me, kept me in his arms like a fish in a bowl. So finally I broke the glass and stepped out, pushed his heat away.

I covered my face with palm leaves, didn't let a single emotion through.

They began to worry. But I told them I was alright.

He flitted back and forth with indescison, like a hummingbird in flight. His wings flapped silently, and I grew jealous.

I wanted to fly. too.

I tried, but came crashing down to earth, a thousand glass tears spilling from my eyes.

He laughed like a hapless crow.

I cursed and turned away, determind to stand. And yet I couldn't. Not yet. Now was too soon.

"Be patient, little sister."

But I couldn't.

I made myself stand, took to the wind, and flew. My wounds burned, and I screamed, but my wings were spread, and wasn't that what I had wished for?

I was flying, and he was still on the ground, his heat seeping into the ground.

He became cold, and I took to the sky.

Hi, Mary Beth. Flashes of images—like subconscious bursts—I think you have a nice collection of thoughts that you could reuse for a longer story, or different ones even.

Thanks Massimo, I was actually just thinking of maybe doing some pieces that were related to each other, like a series of events. Kind of like "The Library Card" by Jerri Spinelli. I think it would be interesting to do something longer with this particular Burrst, though, do you think it could be done?
